Research Report
This research project aimed to examine how inquiry-based approaches to learning in the classroom could support critical thinking and creative expression in visual art. Another aim of this research project was to develop qualitative inquiry skills as a teacher-researcher in the field of art and design education. The experience of learning how to conduct such inquiry within the classroom environment can be helpful to any practicing teacher that wishes to improve and learn from their practice as well as engage with professional development that can also inform teachers on policy making, curriculum development, planning, and implementation. The research report below illustrates the types of strategies and methods used throughout the duration of the project, addresses the findings that emerged and discusses them in relation to relevant theory. The research project was implemented through a visual art project that engaged students in designing site-specific sculptures for a city environment which can also be viewed in more detail on this website.
